Since its original publication in 2013, the MovieLabs ECP Specification has raised the bar for protecting 4K, HDR and early window content in consumer distribution. The specification has been widely implemented by industry partners. MovieLabs periodically updates the guidance to address the evolving landscape. This new version of the specification provides additional guidance on operator practices.

MovieLabs has also just published a new document, MovieLabs Security Practices for Delivering Auxiliary Content to Devices in Cinemas, to address the security of additional tracks distributed over the internet to consumer devices in theaters. In traditional digital cinema distribution, additional language and accessibility tracks have been delivered as part of Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) for playback through exhibitor operated equipment. In recent years, practices have emerged for delivering some of these tracks (e.g., dubbed audio, text captions, and sign language captioning) from the Internet to mobile devices, which are often consumer owned.
