MovieLabs Releases Ontology for Media Creation v2.7

Posted on September 2, 2025

The MovieLabs Documentation site has been updated with the latest version of the Ontology for Media Creation.  Here’s what you can find in the latest version:

GG Assets

We’ve added both “Point Cloud” and “Volume”.

Audio – Now in a full release

We fixed some issues which were discovered in the beta.

We reworked the process from STEM to final audio deliverables.

Utilities

Added definition of “Software”; this is recursive so it can include plugins. Software can be used both in Assets and Compositions to indicate the software that was used to generate them or that is required to use them.

Assets

Added Software field to Asset. This is especially useful for Procedural Assets and ‘standard’ formats that may depend on a particular set of plugins.

Participants

We clarified language around interaction of OMC Roles and roles defined by other organizations.

Coming this Fall, we’ll add both the RDF and JSON versions of v2.7 and include an update to the OMC Validator.  And stay turned for major updates in the first half of 2026 when OMC will be expanded to include the major video pipeline – from camera to post.
