Production Technology Specifications & Resources
MovieLabs is working with studios and the industry to define and advance the future of production technology.
The Evolution of Media Creation
The MovieLabs “2030 Vision” whitepaper, that has become the industry’s north star, started it all. MovieLabs and its member studios lay out a bold vision for the future of media creation technology some 10 years into the future. We describe how technological advances will enable seismic changes in media workflows, and we propose ten foundational principles as keys to unlocking that future. This paper is a must read for anyone interested in technology, media creation and evolving workflows and has been adopted and endorsed by major technology tools, service providers and vendors across the industry.
Securing the Vision WhitePaper
MovieLabs further created an additional whitepaper that specifically expanded on the security components in the original 2030 Vision. This Security paper laid out a foundation for a new approach to cloud based security for highly secure production assets.
MovieLabs has now published the first sections of the Common Security Architecture for Production which provides details for any one looking to build secure workflows, cloud based production systems or to secure the services. The architecture lays out the key components of the new security system and explains the functions of each. Future releases will add more detail and implementation guides.
Ontology for Media Creation
Our Ontology for Media Creation is aimed at developers building services or applications enabling software defined workflows content production. Each of the component parts are constantly being expanded and updated and are housed on a subsection of our website with definitions, a full dictionary and schemas in popular data formats such as SKOS & RDF.
A Visual Language for Media Creation
The MovieLabs Visual Language for Media Creation is a library of resources to enable human communication of complex workflows. The Visual Language is available as a ZIP folder packed with all the documentation, design assets, examples and freely licensed icons for use in creating diagrams or software to enable workflow design or dashboard style reporting.
WORKFLOW USE CASES FOR RESUMPTION OF FILM AND TV PRODUCTION
To assist with safe resumption of film and television production after the Covid-19 shutdown, MovieLabs has released a detailed breakdown of workflows to help structure development of health and safety guidelines. The document categorizes production activities, both on-set and off-set, and describes key characteristics and workflow considerations to help inform health and safety professionals.
MovieLabs does not list or recommend any specific health and safety guidelines for the work activities described. We understand that industry, labor and government organizations are working actively with health experts to develop those guidelines. Our goal is to provide a map of production work activities, along with relevant information about each of those activities, that will assist in their work.
We look forward to partnering in every way we can with the many industry efforts working to protect the talented people involved in the production of the movies and shows we all love.
