Section 3

THE 10 PRINCIPLES FOR THE FUTURE OF MEDIA CREATION

There are 10 fundamental principles in the MovieLabs Vision, grouped into three sections. Each will be explained here in greater detail. Many of these principles are interrelated and become a mesh when enacted together. In future outreach, MovieLabs expects to work with industry stakeholders to demonstrate the benefits of applying these principles to practical applications. Within this section, each principle is described in three parts:

  1. an overview,
  2. practical examples of its application and
  3. its broader implications for the industry.

Interoperability

The 11th Principle?
Since we released the 2030 Vision we have continued to evaluate the 10 Principles in light of changing technologies, workflows and ecosystems.  Our assessment at this mid-point is that the Principles hold up well, mainly because they were written to be non-prescriptive as to how they should be designed, delivered or deployed.

However, since releasing the original vision paper and subsequent work we do feel we should have placed more emphasis on the interconnected nature of the Principles.  In public presentations we now show the Principles like this, with Interoperability as a binding factor that links them together.
